mabey someone can answer a question for me.

a friend of mine set up a 20usg tank and instead of waiting to add the fish slowly he bought 8 at one time. he put in 2 of my kribs and got 3 tiger barbs, 2 rtbs and a pictus cat.(i told hime no about the rtbs but he no listen to what i say anyway).

a few days in all but my 2 kribs were dead. he said he saw some white string stuff on the plants and thought they were eggs because it looked like it had eyes. he thought the kribs were breeding and they killed all the other fish but the kribs are too young and dont produce stringy stuff. i thougt it had something to do with the cycle but am not sure what it may be.

The answer to this quesion is....

There is no way of knowing for sure what the white stringy stuff is that was hanging from a plant.

Direct your friend to the FAQ and tell him to read about the 'Nitrogen Cycle' and the article on 'Your First FW Aquarium.'

I would discourage him from attempting this again until he has a clue about what is going on because it sounds like all he is going to do is kill the next round too.

How sad for the fish..

Doesn't listen to what you say about your own fish? If it were me, I would reiterate what I say followed by a quick jab to the gut to bring the point home.

"As I was saying, the tank needs to cycle first." *punch stomach* Otherwise, there could be ammonia and nitrite poisoning. *stomps on feet*

Seriously though, keep the guy away from your fish.
