The steps below are rather lenghthy and will take a few hours or longer if you wish to try.. I'd really say get some endlers from the store instead and quarantine them but if you must try and save these... You will have to adapt them very slowly. No guarantees here... A variation on DRIP ACCLIMATION. Put the endlers in a tupperware container 3/4 full with their original tank water.. Fill a pitcher with water from YOUR tank and use some books to make it higher then your tupperware container. Use duct tape to tape a piece of airline so one end is in the pitcher, the other end hanging above the tupperware dish. Make a loop with a piece of string and put it around the airhose about halfway up the line. Point the airhose at a different container as you siphon the water thru the airhose, then tighen the knot to adjust the drip rate, one drop per second should do, the slower the better, you might have to tie a secondary knot with another piece of string to make it even slower. Once you have your desired drip rate. Point it to the endler container, let er rip. When the endler container is full. Remove 1/4 of the water. Do this 10 times. Checking the pitcher and refilling from your tank water so you don't lose the siphon process. Then put water and endlers into a plastic baggie leave it open, float the bag in your tank. (attach one end of baggie with tape to keep it from sinking/tipping) Once it's floated for half an hour, carefully catch endlers by hand and release into their new home. Good luck The Amazon Nut... |

It sounds like your grandfather has tested its hardiness. Since it is a short lived fish, it has obviuosly spawned many times in that fetid tank. It prefers water about 76F with a pH of 7.5 to 8.0. Like many small fish, a heavily planted tank will make it feel more secure. DaFishMan gives great advice. Wean the fish off the mud that they are living in and I'll bet that you surprise your grandfather with the number of fry and the brightness of colors in your new fish. __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |
