Gender: Males seem to be more elongated and also are more colorful.
Breeding: L. curviceps breeds on a precleaned site. The tank should be heavily planted on each side and have flat rocks in the open. pH should be 6.0. Up to 300 eggs are laid on broadleaved plants and smooth rocks. Both parents care for the fry.
Variants:
Comments: This fish is suitable for the community aquarium. If placed in groups, they become very active and playful. Avoid placing with very small fish. Much like the Rainbow Cichlid, the flag acara is well know for it's color changing ability. Depending on conditions and the fishes "mood" they can appear anywhere from pearl white to deep saphire blue. They most commonly display a mustard yellow color with darker brown vertical stripes and a red outline at the tips of the fins.
