Temperament: Schooling; Timid, peaceful, and predatory towards small fish. Should be kept in a school and can be kept with other, larger saltwater fish such as Bream, Tarwhine, etc.

Care: Feed prawns and small live fish. Monodactylus argentus are ravenous and will readily take most foods. Salt or very brackish water must be used. Monodactylus argentus can be slowly weaned from the salt water to slighly brackish water over six months by gradually reducing the amount of salt added to the tank after each water change. The tank substrate should be sand or coral.
