Temperament: Aggressive; Damsels are well known for their fiesty behaviour, although they do not tend to become aggressive with other species. If you are planning on keeping more than 2 in the same setup, it should be at least 50gallons in size, as Damsels are noted for aggressive behaviour amongst themselves.

Care: A good beginner species, they accept a wide variety of foods. Blue Damsels much like the Yellow-Tail Damsel are probably among the most popular fish for beginner setups. They are extremely hardy, and due to this they are commonly used to cycle a saltwater tank, although this practice should be discouraged. Use rocky outcroppings. Liverock should be abundant.

Gender: Juveniles and females usually have a black spot at the base of the of the dorsal fin towards the rear. Males of this species display an orange tail, which earns it the common name of Orangetail Blue Damsel.
