Okay, I am 99% sure that I have IDed My fish. The store I got it from has another store accross town that carries something (I heard the retail lady call it a "mobo" forgive my spelling) simular to it, and they get things from the same suppliers.

After viewing my fish I have gathered this info:

1) Eats only TetraMin flakes (wont accept anything else)
2) Changes to a very light color when under stress
3) Prefers open space, I rarely see him hiding in the plants or caves I provided
4) Stays close to the bottom and mid-sections of the tank

Is there anything else I should know or that can help me out? Any tank mates for him?

The tank is 46 g, and he is 1/2 inch in size.

I think "Mobo" might be a Mbuna, of some sort. The picture looks like him. (Mine is a little lighter in color)

Do you recon he would like to be with a jack dempsy and perhaps a spotted puffer or gourmis?

Let me know so I can stock my tank!

African mbuna aren't always the best tankmates for central american cichlids like Jack dempseys. african cichlids have a different way of communicating with each other than central/south americans and this can lead to unnecessary fights and/or deaths. they also have much different dietary requirement.s

spotted puffers can be kept in fresh water as juveniles, but they will do much better in lightly brackish water. as they grow, the salinity needs to be increased so that the puffer is in high end brackish or even full saltwater once it reaches adulthood. this would make it a really bad tankmate for any pure freshwater fish.

gouramis, while somewhat territorial with each other, will be no match for an aggressive mbuna. your cichlid is very capable of killing a gourami and there's a very good chance that it would.

the best thing you can do is find out exactly which species you have and get more of those. if you want non-cichlid tankmates, mbuna typically do fine with synodontis catfish and plecos provided there are plenty of hiding places. some of the other members here should be able to help you identify which species you have (a pic would be great in helping with identification) and may be able to help you find other tankmates for your cichlid.

I found what he is: a slender Mbona, Pseudotopheus elongtus.

He is 3/4 of an inch and currently the only thing in my 46g.

I would like to add:
1x "common" pleco, or perhaps a Pictus Cat
3x "assorted" African Chichlids
1x African Butterfly Fish

Would this work out? Would I be over/under stocked???

The common pleco would get too large, IMHO.

The problem with "Assorted cichleds" is that they are a lot like dogs. One dog may be very different from the next. A pug is completely different from a doberman and has different requirements. In order to stock your tank, you'll need to know the exact cichled species you're adding. You could be mixing smaller, peaceful fish with bigger and more aggressive ones otherwise.

The assorted ones I was looking at:

1x Solid-blue
1x Zebra (The one I have may turn out to be a Zebra, although I am 99% sure he is not)
1x Gold or Lemon colored?

Or should I try to get some that are all the same color?

I would really avoid fish from the "assorted cichleds" tank, unless you are very sure of the species and its requirements.

Another unfortunate side effect of those mixed tanks is hybrid fish. There is sometimes interbreeding and than can be bad news for a tank. You leave thinking you have a peaceful fish and it ends up having a horrid attitude because one of its parents was a more aggressive species.

Interesting article(focuses mainly on hybrids):

"Don’t buy any african cichlids from tanks that read: Assorted cichlids, assorted peacocks, assorted mbuna etc. "

Okay?
What about this:
All of these are from species tanks:

1x Snow White
1x Zebra or all Blue?

What else should I add? Id like a variety of colors. Sorry, this is my first time with Mbunas ^_^
