Hi,
an oscar will get stunted in such a small tank.
These fish grow to 12-16 inches and really need to start out in a 55g or larger tank.
There are lots of other fish you could keep in your tank though.
Perhaps we can help you figure it out?

-Puts laynlex in a closet with a litter box for a few yrs-
Dont worry he will be fine we will just stunt him into a dwarf and he will fit fine.

Stunting causes the exterior of the body to remain small while the interior grows to normal size. Organs begin to be crammed together and eventually the fish dies a very slow and painfull death due to things not being able to function correctly.

well not to sound mean, but my dad put 5 oscars in a 43 gal. tank before and they all grew to their potential size, and they were never sick or stunted...... maybe one in a 25 or 30 gal tank isn't so bad

One of the big things is what other fish do you have or want to get. If you want to but a gaint fish like an oscar in a 25 it might be ok depending on what else you have in there at least for a short amount of time. Say maybe a couple of months at most. I would't keep an oscar in any thing smaller than a 90 gal even though a 75 would work. Why not give them some room to move around?

Edit: The size oscar you get plays a roll too!

well I went and got a albino tiger oscar..... he is about 5 inches big right now.....he is currently housed with a single guppy (which hasn't beeen eaten yet) I will be doing water changes about every three days to ensure that the tank stays pretty clean and I will be purchasing another external filter in the near future. I guess if he gets too big I'll throw him in the parents 125 gal. tank, but they won't be very happy about it.....

So after we all told you not to and that its a bad idea you just go ahead and did it. Exactly why did you ask us. I can guanrentee that those oscars your dad didn't grow to full size. If I sound like a jerk I just especially feel for oscars.

plain and simple - stupid choice.
A 14 inch fish DOES NOT belong in a 24 inch tank.
Take it back. Save it the pain and suffering of a quick fast stunting.
You do realize when a fish gets stunted, its body stops growing but its organs continue to grow, causing the fish to explode internally.
We all told you not to do it.
Stupid Decision.

That's the problem, it might not grow too large because of stunting. Although Oscars grow slowly, you have yours in a 25 gallon tank(tiny), and you'll probably have to move it soon.
