So far I have two oscars & 2 firemouth cichlids but what else can I put in that wont get eaten or turn into a bully? I'd possiblly like something to eat alge or would a black ghost knfe fish be ok? or mabye a small group of rainbowfish? Please let me know what you think or if you have your own ideas. Thank you. |

To help me get an idea of what you can get in your tank, are your oscars and firemouths peaceful, or aggressive? Severums have worked with peaceful oscars and firemouths. Various pike cichlids also work. |

Back in the game after 4 years out .. |

A larger, more bold species of rainbowfish would be the best choice for this tank. Perhaps the Red Irian Rainbowfish would appear to you? Its size and color make it a fabulous fish, and I have seen them, and they are very bold in nature (were in a tank with adult green severum and convicts). There are several larger species of rainbow that may work as well : Boesmani, Barred Rainbowfish - I have these two species in my tank, as well as many other types. Heres a profile on Red Irian Rainbows: http://members.optushome.com.au/chelmon/Incisus.htm Im not sure about black knife fish though, I dont know all that much about them. Hope this helps anyway! We've all heard horror stories of them ripping tankmates apart, etc. A couple bristlenose plecos would be a fine addition. I wouldn't add a BGK since they are rather peaceful and wouldn't mix well with the aggressive cichlids. They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver, So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces. |
