Hiya,

I've got a 125g (UK) tank 66inches long 32 inches hight 18 inches deep.

So far I have two oscars & 2 firemouth cichlids but what else can I put in that wont get eaten or turn into a bully?

I'd possiblly like something to eat alge or would a black ghost knfe fish be ok? or mabye a small group of rainbowfish?

Please let me know what you think or if you have your own ideas.

Thank you.

Try small convicts, acaras, blood parrots, etc. Theres alot of different fish that would work.

To help me get an idea of what you can get in your tank, are your oscars and firemouths peaceful, or aggressive?

Severums have worked with peaceful oscars and firemouths. Various pike cichlids also work.

the firemouths are quite shy & had a lot & wait till I've let before they eat.

the oscars are very friendly to me & my dogs but but ingnore the firemouths.

I know that a small school of silver dollars or some monos do quite fine with oscars their shape and speed are not an appealing meal for them

The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an bacon and egg breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."

silver dollars would be good but monos if I remember correctly are brackish water fish.

in the wild the mono is a brackish water fish but will adapt to pretty much any type of water, I have even read about them breeding in fresh

I think that you could probably try Rainbowfish with these fish, if you chose carefully. A larger, more bold species of rainbowfish would be the best choice for this tank. Perhaps the Red Irian Rainbowfish would appear to you? Its size and color make it a fabulous fish, and I have seen them, and they are very bold in nature (were in a tank with adult green severum and convicts). There are several larger species of rainbow that may work as well : Boesmani, Barred Rainbowfish - I have these two species in my tank, as well as many other types. Heres a profile on Red Irian Rainbows:

Im not sure about black knife fish though, I dont know all that much about them.
Hope this helps anyway!

I wouldn't trust rainbows, even large ones, with one oscar, let alone 2. We've all heard horror stories of them ripping tankmates apart, etc. A couple bristlenose plecos would be a fine addition. I wouldn't add a BGK since they are rather peaceful and wouldn't mix well with the aggressive cichlids.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

I now have 2 gold sererums (lovely fish) & a lobster...one of the firemouths is no longer with us :-( i don't think he got on with the other one as they split the tank in two, he seamed quite helthy went i went out to the LFT but as dead when I got home....One of the oscars is looking ill - it gets on really well with the other one but hasn't grown like the other one has & today is hiding behind a plant looking sad.
