I dont know about anyone else, but I dont think that would work. Either the cichlids would kill the dwarf puffers, or the puffers would kill the cichlids. Dwarf Puffers should be kept in a puffer only tank. The BN wont work either as it hasnt different needs then african cichlids. I also dont think there are many African Cichlids besides shell dwellers that would work in a 20g tank. HOWEVER! How about some South American Dwarf Cichlids? You could do the following set up: 1 Bristlenose 3-4 German Blue Rams or Bolivian Rams Some small dither fish like Rummynose Tetra, or Neon tetra, or Cardinal Tetra or Lemon tetra, say 6 of one type. That would be a very nice South American Themed Tank, and all the fish would get along with no problems! Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

If you don't know, don't buy them. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

Bristlenose plecos work very good in african tanks most of the time. A lot of people I know keep BNs and africans together with no problems. Last edited by openwater at 14-Sep-2005 17:40 |

Yes it may work in a tank 55g or larger. BN plecos come from waters that have a low ph and very acidic. They also prefer some driftwood in their diets. Most African Cichlid tanks have very high ph and very alkaline, and dont provide any driftwood as most are rock only tanks. Plus, honestly, a 20g tank isnt large enough for the "assorted african cichlids" and a BN. Simply not enough room. I was trying to state that bristlenose plecos will work with Rift Lake cichlid 99% percent of the time. These plecos will readily adapt to the higher ph and hard water. Of course make sure the size of the tank is suitable. |

From what I have seen of my 5, there is no way they could "kill" each other, sure they squabble a bit, but they never have harmed each other at all. It is possible that yours were sick and died because of stress. These fish are NOT that aggressive to kill each other. There are several types of Dwarf Cichlids, cockatoos, apistos, bolivians, blue rams, golden blue rams, etc etc. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |
