i might be getting a 250 gallon 8ft tank its 8ft long 2 ft wide and 2ft high
its set up as a marine tank but i will just use as freshwater
can anyone tell me what a sump is?
also can anyone suggest any small-medium cichlids that will live togther in there???? like a cichlid community thing

You may need to do a bit of research and then post with possible combos in the cichlid area. That way people can tell you if they have been successful with the combos you are thinking about.

Be aware that many cichlids would prefer to have the run of the neighbourhood.

You may like to consider fewer species but spectacular and large specimens...sometimes the way with cichlids and what I decided to do.

I personally like Jack Dempseys...Green Terrors also do well with JD's.... both get about 12" long max, but ususally top off around 10-11"

You could get a few Oscars in there...that would look really cool

I'm moving this to Cichlid Central since you asked specifically about cichlids.

You should take a look at the profiles and decide if you want to go with Malawi, Tanganyikan, Victorian, West African, Central American or South American. These groups can vary quite a bit in their diet and care requirements and most of them should not be mixed together. South and Central American can be mixed and you can also mix in West african cichlids with them but the rest really should be kept with others from the same region.
