I would get a trio of yellow labs or a pair of convicts. If you want a fish to breed go with the convicts, if you want color and fish that will breed when they are older go with the yellow labs. I have had both in my 29 gallon tank. I really liked the yellow labs that i got, but i loved watching my small pair of convicts chasing around my firemouth and my african jewel. the labs are not too aggressive, but convicts are. my pair did not breed because i got them at a young age. unfortunately my male convict killed the three other fish and I had to get rid of him. Good Luck

Part of your answer depends upon how hard/soft and what pH your water is...unless you're willing to change those.

Keyholes would be fine in your tank, so would a pair of convicts. Not both at the same time, though.

Angels would work if your tank is 18" tall - any shorter and it's too short for angelfish.

good advice already by BigE and Gerber77...just wanted to add that you definitely need to stay away from severums and parrots unless you plan to upgrade to a 55 or 75 in a year or so. both sevs and parrots will grow far too large to go in a 25 gallon for life.

Just want to add, I think a 25 is too small for more than one angel.

I have a full grown one in my 40 and I would still not add another. Here is a pic. As you can see they do get big.

Sorry dialup error messed me up...
