I would go with 4 Yellow Labs. (1 male & 3 females) & don't add more fish, as you'll be overstocked. You also need some caves, so the females can hide.

Kenyi are out for sure, tanks to small...

As Jason says Electric Yellow's are the way to go 1 male, 2-3 females.
And nothing else, if your looking to start up a Mbuna Community 55g is really the Minimum

well sk8's already got the 1 kenyii, but no more...we'll have to figure out what he can put in there with it, that can fend for itself...i'm think 3 rusties or so...they are pretty uhm enduring mean boogers, that can hold their own as well as anyone's finger they get ahold of

those rusties will be shredded when that kenyi matures. i cant think of any mbuna that will be able to stay in that tank with the kenyi for the long term. if the kenyi stays in that tank, it will be the only fish in that tank. there are no haps that can stay in that small of a tank either. big decision to make. keep the kenyi and have him/her be the only fish or get rid of him/her and get more of ONE KIND of mbuna. preferably a few yellow labs. a trio would be perfect. that way you could get a little bushynose pleco to take care of algae.

There are a few Mbuna that can hold their own with Kenyi. Try an Auratus(spelling?). I agree neither should be in a 30g, but..... if you cannot return the Kenyi. I love watching catfish fights(no one really hurt), but cichlid fights are down right nasty. BTW I've seen some really tough Lab. Fulleborni in my times also(even females moreso).

Acei nailed it above, Keep the one Kenyi and nothing else or get rid of it and have another species...

As Stallion mentioned also, Melanochromis species(Auratus), and several other Mbuna can hold their own in with Kenyi. This set up requires say a 75g min...

Nothing CAN be kept with your Kenyi in a 29g.
Electric yellows are the only real safe bet given the tank size.

i have always been told and have read that it is wise to over stock an african tank. it makes it too difficult for one fish to establish complete domanace. but that is for a 55 or greater i don't know about a 29gal.

bumble bee chiclids are pretty rough. sry i don't know it scientific name

Overcrowding is not a answer for that tank. Overcrowding with mbuna species will work, but once again a 55gal(as stated above) would be a minimum tank size. Keep in mind the 55 "cube" do not work as well as the standard 55 "long".

Pseudotropheus crabro, or bumble bee won't work longterm in a 29 gal. They can get 6-8 inch range.

Can't you sell the Kenyi or donate it.

NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! dont give up on the 29 man.
Go for 4-5 Acei's.(i had 5 in my 29G) I breeded them twice in my 29G so they are fine. My fish died 2 weeks ago cause i moved. i wonder how come they cant handle a 45 minute drive then put in another tank when they prolly endured much worse in the lfs i bought them from 3 years ago..
