1. I have a 29 gallon tank with 3 black tetras and 4 lampeyes. I want to add a pair of bolivian rams when the tank is fully cycled. ph 7.5. Would this work? The tank is sparsly planted but has a large piece of artificial driftwood and a cave made from a large rock and a piece of slate leaning against it.

2. I have a 40 gallon high that is cycling with 3 large opaline gouramies (about 4 inches in length). There is a chocolate cichlid (temporalis species) that I've had my eye on that I want to add. Is a 40 gallon high too small for such a cichlid? (30 inches wide, 24 inches tall, 12 inches deep) If I can't go with the chocolate cichlid, what other larger species of fish, cichlid or otherwise would be recommended? I want a small number of larger fishes in this tank as I already have 2 other tanks with tetras and barb species. This tank has a ph of 7.4

I can't answer the question about the second tank, but I will help you with the first one. Yes, a pair of bolivian rams would be happy in that tank. That would be a very nice environment for them. However, I would upgrade each of your schools of tetras to six apiece, they will be much happier. Also, with the addition of the rams, the tetras would be less stressed, because they would school with their respective species and feel safer.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

In the 40 gallon, what about a pair of firemouth cichlids, or maybe one? Would they go well with 3 opaline gouramies that are 4 inches or so?

i have had mating fire mouths attack large oscars and green terrors. so the slow peaceful and delicate gourami's would with out a doubt be destroyed by a pair. u might want to try fast moving schooling fish like some sort of tetra or barbs to go with them. and a bristle nose for the bottom and algae control.
