i say get 600 neons i dunno where you would find that many, but they are active and colorful. but i guess since you posted this here, you want cichlids....

6 discus(can try diff colors)
6 angels
2 parrot
2 pleco
2 severum

ps. just thought about the water condition discus need... so they prob wont work, either replace them with something else, or double up the angels and discus and get rid of the parrot and severum.

i still think you should do the 600 neons

Id like to keep aggression minimal, boss wants the tank to look "full" .
Im thinking more along the lines of several smaller cichlids like rams or kribs, apistos,,,, with a few larger ones like severums and the blood parrots. I just dont know if that would work.....

If the above wouldnt work- how would blood parrots, rosey queens, severums and firemouths get along??

i get to stock the new 400 gal tank at work, around 2 8 in bloodparrots and a 18 in common pleco. they want color, activity and personality.

so what would you do with this tank??? the 2 blood parrots id say are on the more peaceful side.

Why not a good size school of electric yellows. And then look for a center piece cichlid or 2. I personally like the Red Empress. Or you can even do quite a few peacock cichlids. They're very colorful and your tank seems big enough to where you might be able to have a few males or so. As long as you have caves and hiding spots.

Don't get electric yellows cause their pH is a lot different, right?
If shelldwellers are compatible you could get a huge colony of them...I think that would be cool

What I would do with a 400 gallon tank ]...ahem

2 Blood Parrots
2 Green Severums
2 Gold Severums
50 Cardinal Tetras
25 Cory's
4 Angelfish
10 Otto's
1 or 2 Pleco's of some sort
4 Firemouths

I'm pretty sure that isn't overstocked for a 400 gallon

I don't think it would take much to buffer the ph if it's needed. There's instant pH buffer or just add some crushed coral or some lime stone slabs. But I think a good size school of electric yellows would be awesome. And a pair of frontosa would be cool too. If their pH requirements are the same I can't remember. Been out of the cichlid picture for a while , I'm just involved in marine tanks now.

But telling you from owning a school of yellows there's not a better color looking freshwater fish out there.
