For a 46 g.

You've got way to many fish, you'll most likely be bst off with 2 species, and about 3-4 of each.

Avoid the more aggressive, and try to get species that max out at about 4".

I'd say go with Lab. Caeruleus (yellows) and Ps. Demasoni or Ps. Acei.

I agree with Mr.Cichlid.

I'd go with his selection or mix up your own, with alot less fish, probably max out at 6 4-6" fish or 4 8" fish.

I would probably go all zebras instead.

Watch out for the pleco, it can outgrow the tank.

auratus can be very nasty. there are in the top three 3 for the most aggressive mbunas, but they also are quite interesting at times.
Jewels are also quite beautiful, but can develope an nasty temper as well

My goodness - that's more a stocking list for a 120 gallon than a 46 gallon!

I wouldn't put more than 10 fish in that size tank, and only 1-3 species. I would avoid the maingano (which are the same as johannii), auratus, and lombardoi (you could do the last if they were the only species), as they are all too aggressive for that size tank. Try to get 1 male to at least 3 females of whatever you choose (which is why I'd recommend 2 species maximum, so you can have the proper numbers). One of these combinations should work quite well:

4 red zebras
6 labidochromis caeruleus

4 cobalt zebras
6 labidochromis caeruleus

5 rustys
5 labidochromis caeruleus

5 pindanni
5 labidochromis caeruleus

5 pindanni
5 rustys

4 elongatus
6 labidochromis caeruleus

POSSIBLY 4 bumble bees
6 labidochromis caeruleus, or pindanni, or rustys.

I'd avoid a common pleco, as they get too large, but you could add a bristlenose or two.

You would need excellent filtration to sustain this stock level when the fish are adults.
