	55 Gallon Stocking Ideas?
cordain Banned Posts: 121 Kudos: 191 Votes: 4 Registered: 18-Apr-2004	I currently have a 55 gallon tank that is full and ready to put anything in it. Right now I also have a pair of convicts that I am moving into the 55 gallon tank. What other cichlids from South America or Central America do you think I could put in the tank with the Convicts? I was maybe thinking a pair of Jack Dempseys but I'm not too sure. I want a fish that will grow at least 6 inches. No firemouths or texas cichlids though.

Jason_R_S Moderator Posts: 2811 Kudos: 2421 Votes: 391 Registered: 18-Apr-2001	as the fish get to full size you may have trouble keeping a convict pair with another cichlid pair in a 55 gallon. as convicts grow their territorial needs grow as well. I had a pair (male 3" and female 2" in a 75 gallon and they took up half the tank. you could definitely do some fast/tough dithers.

chris1017 Fish Addict Posts: 610 Kudos: 421 Votes: 70 Registered: 09-Sep-2003	jason is right. you will have a tough time finding other fish to put in that tank. just about anything big enough to handle the convicts would be too big for your 55. you may be able to go with some dithers, i like giant danios, and some tough catfish, like some sort of synodontis, but there is really not many options for you. the only good thing about convicts is they breed like rabbits so you could trade some fry to your lfs and use the rest as food for other fish. chris
