hello
i have a group of (what i thought were) juvenile blue german rams in my 29G tank and i guess two have paired up because i discovered eggs today!

they layed them on top of a java moss-covered rock in a slight indentation. the eggs are farily large (2-3 mm) and clear. the male ram is hovering over them.

is there anything i should do, or will he take care of them himself? if and when they hatch, should i remove the fry, or leave them in the main tank.

the tank contains about 10 small rams (less than an inch), 1 blue face apistogramma, 1 queen botia, one bolivian ram and one male betta. it is furnished with piles of rocks, coconut shell halves, java fern, java moss, and anubias plants.

yippee! i'm so excited. i've never had a successful spawn before, and this one i wasn't even trying for

The parents will care for the eggs and eventually, the fry. The thing is, in that tank they may be consumed by the loach or one of the other cichlids. If you want to raise them, it would be best to set up a separate tank for the young. Then you would have the choice of moving the parents into that tank for breeding and fry raising, or just moving the eggs or fry into that aquarium and using it for growout.

I bet some of your fish wouldn't mind snacking on ram babies one bit. Good luck with them!

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

thanks!
i do have a few small (5 & 10G) tanks that i could use for growout, but for now i think i'll just leave the eggs as is and see what happens. if that doesn't work out, i may move the parents into their own tank to let them do their thing.

thanks so much for the help!
