ive been tossing the idea about a pair of kribs in my community tank for ages and i cant decide so help me out.

some info you need.
75g tank / sand substrate/ lots of plants-wood
4 gold gouramis
15 neons
3 yoyos
12 cories
1 5 inch sailfin pleco
3 threadfin rainbows with plans of 6 total
future plans of 12-15 Harlequin Rasboras
future plans of 1 Angel ( common marlbed )

So the question is, would a single pair of kribs be ok in this size tank with these other fish?

I think that the Kribensis might attach the Corydoras when breeding.

I wouldn't do it, because breeding krib pairs have been known to tear up any other bottom fish. Your cories and loaches certainly won't appreciate such behavior! I would just add more yoyo loaches instead, they'd thank you for that.

its a 4ft tank x 18 inches. kribs are 4 inch fish that require about 1-2 square feet for territory.

the cories are something i was worried about but the size of the tank is huge compared to what most kribs are kept in.

I've had smaller but similar setups with sucess. I'm had kribs breed in a 29 gallon while I was away, and when I got back to some fry, everything was fine. With it being a 29, its relitively small, and they only guarded the bottom right of the tank, where the fry were.

I would say go with smaller/younger kribs. That way you get the similar result of angels and neons when they grow up together.

Just my 2 cents.

Just get 2 male kribs. Or are you wanting to breed?

Breeding Kribs are very, very cranky. It's a big tank though and the other fish might be able to stay out of the way.

Good luck, Mike

I wouldnt do it, I know a few people who've had kribs kill a bunch of fish in their tank.

I have a single krib in y tank right now, and in the larger tank(it's about 63 gallons) he is relatvively peaceful except that he and the firemouth displkay at each other.
buty when i had him in a29 before i upgraded he really really didn't like the cories, used to bite at thier dorsal fins, chase them around.
So a breeding pair would do your cories damage i thinhk, though if the tank is big enough and the cories intelligent enough to stay away you might be okay.
I would go with a slightly less intense dwarf cichlid pair, nannacara anomala or laetacra curviceps in that tank.
kribs are great in colour though.

I've heard so many horror stories about mated kribs ripping up a tank. I mean not just "they killed all my tetras"- I've heard of kribensis pairs taking down much larger cichlids more than once. I have a female kribensis on her own, and to stop her from attacking any other cichlid (including an angel) I put in my tank, I need to keep tetras around so that she can swim through them. Basicaly it's a sort of bluff charge, but no real energy, she just swims through the school, occasionaly following one.

Basicaly you won't have target fish in the tank with a pair of mated kribs, you'll have target practice *PULL!*
