Tank size:

1 convict- 20 gal.

2 convicts- 29 gal.(I would try and get either 2 females or a male female pair. I have had 2 males together in a larger tank and did not like the result.)

3 convicts- 55 gal. and with this I would do all females

Sociability:

They are very aggressive and intollerant, not a community fish!

Size: They can reach 7 inches but are more typically seen at 4 to 5 inches

Tankmates: The fish that I have had the best luck with are pl*cos, silver dollars, mollies, jack dempseys, firemouths, salvinis, and black tetras.

All of this depends on the disposition of the convicts that you keep. Convicts are one of the most interesting and intelligent fish out there on the market. If you choose to get some they are sure to provide you with countless hours of entertainment.
