i wanted to share this amazing discovery with all you fish lovers!

the Neolamprologus Similis generation of children were moved into their own 10g, with the intention of growing on a bit to sell/move on. of around 24 of various sizes, there were half a dozen from the very first spawn who were looking fine mini versions of their parents.

today to my absolute amazement, i noticed a few fry! my point being, the parents are really still quite small, the male only at the most half the size of their mother, with the female being even smaller, if 1/3 at the most. but they have still laid eggs and they've hatched sucessfully! amazing.

the similis are grandparents!

attached are two pics, one of the male, and the other of mum and one of the fry, circled.

Er, how many parents did the first generation have? Is it possible that the new fish are inbred?

Wow, that's a nice surprise malaikah. I wonder if others will start giving it a go now?

Will they live with multiple generations like Multies do?

I'm pretty sure the "common" name is to just call them similis.

- how many parents did the first generation have???

if you mean about bloodlines, yes, these new fry are inbred to the extent their parents are bro and sis, but the grandparents were from different sources so most likely unrelated.

yeh the common name is just similis, and they behave in much a similar way to the multies. they are a bit bigger and rougher though, they tolerate each other less.
