I have a large male silver angel. He does have a mate in tha tank, so this may be my answer. He seems to be changing colors! Looks almost like a rust color. His stripes are disappearing. Any idea? Other than the color change he is healthy as are the other fish in the tank.

Sometimes fish will alter their colors, sometimes due to stress and confromtations, showing dominance. There is a multitude of things that can make this happen, and angels seem to do it a lot, for example i had silver angels, the ones with the vertical striping, and they would fade their stripes out, usualy when i was doing water changes.

Some of my silver, as they got larger, got a rust color on the top of their haed but their stripes never went away. Also, sometimes, when they were getting ready to breed and other fish were in the tank, they'd darken a little.

It could be he's feeling aggressive but the stripes fading make me think it's stress. Check the water, maybe do a water change.

Have you added any new fish or has another fish gotten big enough to give him grief?

Mike

Angels will change colour, especially when growing up & when they are breeding, they get more colourful.

maybe I was a bit over the top with the stipes disappearing LOL. They are there, but very faded. He is confrontational with the other two angels besides his mate, but that has been since the beginning of time. They all have their own spot in the tank. Water is fine. The changing of colors just caught me off guard.
