Okay, here's what's been going on.... I had 3 Angelfish in a 55 gal community tank initially... Two appeared to be a definite pair... Constantly swimming together, one chasing off other fish who ventured too close... Eventually, these two began "squaring off" --- gradually increasing their routine from merely facing one another - shaking their bodies - nipping - and eventually locking lips.... As I'd had these three Angels for several months, I decided to try my hand at breeding.... Removed the "pair" from the community tank and placed them in a 20 gal tank with no other tank mates.... Eventually they did lay eggs, but due to my being unprepared and subsequent mishandling of tank maintenance this spawn was not successful... The two remained in that tank for a couple of more weeks.... However, due to other circumstances in my other tanks it was necessary to re-arrange my various aquariums. Returned the "pair" to the 55 gal community tank.... Much to my surprise, the "pair" broke up!!! And the apparent male Angel paired with the other Angel.... Eggs were laid and they have carefully tended the fry since hatching.... Tonight, the other female continually tried to gain the male's attention --- Squaring off and shaking her body --- The "new Mama" Angel has been chasing and nipping the other female.... While the male, other than returning a few shakes of his body - has not accepted his original mate's advances... Soon I saw her laying eggs on a plant located on the opposite end of the aquarium.... MANY, MANY eggs! ..... This leaves me with one primary question ---- When does actual fertilization of the eggs take place? Is there any chance that fry will result from this second batch of eggs - or, since the male has mated with the 2nd female and has shown no interest in the original female, will these eggs simply be duds and produce NO fry?????????? (Please note: The 2nd female continues to show aggression toward the original female - but has not shown ANY interest in the newly laid eggs)

To thine own self be true...

Unless the male went over to the eggs and fertilized them they will be infertile and probably turn white in a day or two.
