I currently have 2 Angels in my 30 Gallon planted tank. One is a Quarter sized black mix and a Standard Gold which is a little bit larger. Tank is properly cycled and set up all water levels are good. PH about 7.6 The problem I have is that during feeding time only the black eats. I have yet to see the Gold eat at all, will he eventually eat or will he starve himself to death?

I've also seen the Gold Angel at some points just pointed straight at the top of tank, is this normal?

Thanks for any info in advance!

Hi,
What are you feeding them? If one is more dominant it may hog all the food. Try feeding it some fruit flies or mosquito larvae (i collect mosquito larvae by having a jar of water outside - they will turn up in a matter of days). Put a couple in one side of the tank and put some food for the black one on the other side of the tank and see what happens. Good luck. I'm new to angels too but this works for me

angels will eat little flies and insects that fall into the water and float on the surface, so it could just be looking for food. If it is swimming ok, and doesn't seem stressed it is probably just hunting for lunch.

How long have you had the angles in there? I had the same problem with two that i introduced to my tank. One got used to the feeding routine pretty quickly. The other took a while, but now gets right in there. It may just take some time.

I wouldn't recommend cultivating your own mosquito larvae because of the threat of West Nile virus.

have you tried live foods? lots of time the hunting instincts will take over and it'll start to chase food and eat it. Since they're still pretty small you could use mosquito larvae or go to a store and get small worms or brine shrimp. I hope your little guy eats soon!

west nile is carried in mosquitos and can kill birds and even humans if not treated , you contract it when the mosquito bites you, i don't beleve it's in austrialia, but maybe....

West nile virus is carried by misquitos which have to breed in wet areas and not to many parts of ausralias to wet. I would say you would have nothing to worrie about west nile virus.

Mooglestar -- to whom the advice was directed -- is in the US, not Australia, where West Nile virus is definitely present.

The larger angel is still not eating. I've been trying with to feed it with Flakes and Granules and all the other fish but that angel eat it. I'll try to get some live foods as soon as I can this weekend and try that. Do you think it may just not like these flakes and granules?

Thanks again,
Mooglestar

Have you noticed this particular angel trying to eat but spitting the food out? Or having clear stringy poop? Angelfish sometimes will have internal parastites and they either won't eat or will try but spit the food out. If you suspect parasites, raising the temp in the tank to 88degrees will get the fish eating again. Then treat with Jungle Parasite Guard if you can find that where you live. This particular product has several dewormer meds in it. Worked for me and saved my fish!
