Right now I have two angels, both are larger than a silver dollar, once even larger and is dominant. Would I be able to put a third smaller angel in.

My tank is a 46g bowfront current inhabiants: 2 Angels, 2 Blue Rams, 8 Rummynoses, 15 Cards, 4 otos, 4 dwarf plecos.

It might work but you need a plan if it doesn't. If the two you have now are or may become a pair the new guy will be in for a rough time. Though a 46 has plenty of room for him to stay out of their way I don't think that's what you have in mind. You'd like all three to hang together, right? Can't say for sure if that will happen. It depends on the fish, their sex and temperament.

Do you have another tank to move it too if the resident Angels get aggressive?

Good luck, Mike

Your right, I'd like the 3 to hang out, I'm more curious about the size difference and compatibility if I put a really small angel vs one the same size as the ones I currently have would there be any difference in acceptance, etc.

Don't have another tank that would accomodate an angel, but I have a really good lfs that I know would take the fish back if it didn't work out.

If anything a smaller fish might be less likely to be picked on because the larger fish wouldn't view it as a threat to their territory. But that's by no means a given and small fish grow. If you have 3 Angels and a pair forms the odd man out will get harrassed. If they are all 3 the same sex they'll likely be one big happy family.

Good luck, Mike

I don't know if adding another angelfish would be a good idea. I've often heard about problems with angelfish being kept in trios. The smaller/weaker angel often gets singled out for harassment by the dominant fish, and the middle fish will sometimes join in on the beating. Even though you have plenty of space in there, angelfish can be persistent when they want to be. I don't think you should add another angel, just to be on the safe side.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Do you think adding two more would be pushing it?

Current stock:

2 Angels
2 Blue Rams
8 Rummynoses
15 Cards
4 Dwarf Plecos
4 Otos

46gallon, eheim ecco (rated to 80g), 20% weekly wc,
planted. Fish all good.

I would stick with 2 Angels, maybe they'll pair off.

Nice angel pics.

Right now my larger angel picks on the smaller one. They've been together for about 8 months and once the bigger one had a huge growth spurt he's been picking on the smaller one ever since.

Finding Angels that go well together is luck of the draw. Ive been through many #'s and sizes. Try this: buy 1 larger, 1 smaller(match your other 2's sizes). If you find 2 that do well, stick with it and be happy with 2. Try to keep the #'s even(2 or 4)as odds usually go bad. Last attempt I had with "finding friends" I had 2 at 3" and 2 at half dollar size. 1 of the small ones died ,and the other small 1 got picked on. So I sold it at an auction and my other 2 large ones bred . Finally I got LUCKY. Took awhile and about 7 angels but I got it and are satisfied with 2. I kept my original Angelfish for 1.5 years before I found him/her(still cant tell)a friend(now mate). IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT.

I bought 4 Angels & 2 of them paired off after 8 months. It's not complicated, it's just luck.

I bought 6 various sizes. I now have two pairs. The only time the pairs are agressive is when they lay eggs. I have yet to be successful in getting the swimmers to thrive.

Have tried removing the eggs. Removing all but the pair. But to no avail...
