Most said they'd be fine. I got my first angel, about 2.5" ..yesterday. Then I heard from some of Ottos being swallowed..or at least killed while trying to be swallowed..by their Angelfish once the Angels got big enough. Anyone have any experience keeping them together? Successfully or not..

Well mine's bigger than that now..it's about 2 1/2 " of body w/out fins..the fins add about 2 more inches top and bottom (it's a veiltail). So I'll maybe know sooner lol. It if does turn on them, I can take it back to LFS..OR ..get another tank by then

I have a good size angel hes about 6" tall and like 3-4" long. Ive had ottos die but its never been because of the angelfish. He never bugs em. The only fish he bugs on is my gourami, and even then its very rare. Infact they hang out together a lot. Never looked twice at an otto though.

An angelfish shouldn't bother ottos. I've never heard of it happening, so you should be ok.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

I have occassionally seen very small ottos available, perhaps half adult size. I could see where a large angel might try to eat a very small otto. That said, I have maintained ottos and angels together for years in a large planted tank and have never had a problem. I do not forsee any difficulty with your fish as your angels are small, provided the ottos have enough space and cover to melt into.

I've read Pterophylum altum, ($$$, not commonly available) which get much larger than P. scalare, have been known to consume ottos.

I've noted with interest, that the mouth size on my young altums appears to be substantially larger than on same body sized scalare. Perhaps someday my altums will view the ottos as lunch - thus far, they ignore them entirely.
