Can oscars and angelfish be kept together? I don't know that much about cichlids, I was just wondering.

as a general rule...no they shouldn't be kept together. that's not to say though that they absolutely couldn't be kept together under the right circumstances.

Well in my personal opinion yes, but only for a period of time and or it also depends on the attitude of your oscar…some are passive and some can be nasty. I have kept them together already, mind you my oscar was only four inches at the time and the angels were five to six inches tall. It was neat to see the oscar swim along side the angels because there such an odd match up.

The time period that you can mix the two is very limited because oscars are quite the fast growing species, they can outgrow their tankmates and their tank in no time. I’m fortunate to have many tanks to move fish around as I see fit. Info on how big your tank is would be a great deal of help in this situation and if you have another tank ready if they have a problem with one another.

I don't think that they should be kept together, especially when they are grown ups.

As long as the Angels are big enough it should be okay. I kept a big Angel (3' body) with a 10" Oscar and the did great. I then thought I could grow out a few quarter size Angels with them. Wrong!

Good luck, Mike

i always thought that when a oscar gets large it becomes less agressive. i had 4 little devils (p.s not red devils, but oscars aka devils) and they were very mean. so u can always try, but have a tank ready just in case.

Ok. How big do oscars get? And what size of tank would you need for 1? Sorry, I ask too many questions :%)

Adult Oscars gets to 10"-16" in a home aquaria. The absolute minimal size for a 1 grown oscar to live happily is a 55 gallon. You can keep them in smaller tank when their little, but they will sure grow out of them in a couple of month. IMO oscars are quite peaceful compare to other cichlid, there's many possibility you can find a good tank mate for your oscars, I have kept an 12" angry oscar pair for 5 years and they do best kept with central/American cichlid. Good mix:Jack dempsey,Green terror,Convict,Salvini, pacu,Pleco, arowana,Catfish. Some Bad mix:Red devil,Jaguar,Flowerhorn,African cichlid, plants, angels, discus, crayfish(its gone before you know it),and anything that fits oscar's mouth. Happy Oscar keeping.
