Hello all. This post concerns angelfish. When ever my dad or I decide to buy an angelfish from the pet shop and we bring it home, within 3-4 hours the angels start developing a fungus. Then as soon as we notice it, we put medication in the tank. The medication does not help one bit, they die in about 2-3 days. Could it be the certain fish store? Should we try another fish stores' angelfish? I have heard similar stories like this while i was in another fish store while people were talking to the employees about buying fish from the store we always bought our angels. Could it be that there is something wrong with there supplier or even their tanks? I am asking this because my 29 gallon is almost cycled. By the way, here are the tank conditions when we buy angelfish. ph-7.0,gh-8,nitrite-0,ammonia-0,temp-78.

Almost cycled? Almost cycled is very different from cycled. IMO, angels aren't the hardiest fish, and aren't even really a beginners fish. I say this because we keep a lot of our angels at work in RO water, as they are bred very nicely but still just seem to be sensitive.

If you are having repeated problems with angels from one store, I would definetely suggest trying another one. Browse around, sometimes car trips are well worth the visit. But before buying any new fish, I would wait until that tank is cycled.

Also, make sure that you have correct dimensions for an angel tank, as they do better off in taller ones.

i think you were, getting my post all wrong, The almost cycled tank has no fish in it exept zebra danioes and will remain that way untill the nitrites hit 0 ppm. I am talking about angels in a completly cycled tank,ex-o ammonia and o nitrites.

Oh, okay, yes I did mis interpret that a little. But my opinions aren't really going to change...

I still feel angels aren't as hardy as they're made out to be, though some may disagree.

You shouldn't have angels developing fungus though, try a different LFS or two and if possible, ask to have THEIR water tested.

*shrug*

Sorry I misinterpreted, but you have to be careful. Not everybody knows that it isn't okay to put nice fish in a "almost cycled" fish tank...

All young Angels should be placed in a hospital tank that is fully cycled and a fungus med dosed shortly before the purchase. "Fungus Cure" at half dose should be fine...

Young Angels are notorious fungus collectors and cannot tolerate the disease for long.

A ten gallon would be fine to isolate the Angels with meds for two weeks until the danger is past. Acclimate the Angels according to procedure before placing in the ten gallon.
