I purchased three angels for my 72 gallon bowfront, but two were an obvious pair, so, I put the third in a 65 gallon hex and added three more. She/he paired off right away with one of the new ones, but the new one died. Now, I have a total of five angels in the 65 gallon hex (I don't want any more in the 72 gallon, as that pair is thriving and spawning) and all five of them are fighting........vicious, going at each other headfirst. Should i add one or more angels? Would that break up the tension? Would that overstock? I have five angels (body size of quarter to half-dollar) and ten small tetras. Thanks!

how long have they been in the tank and is there anything else in with them. you could try taking one or two back to the store if they let you return fish or get some danios for them to chase as they are very fast and wont get caught

They have been in tank since OCtober, so about three months. There are 10 Tetras in with them (I feel terrible, but I don't know what kind and I usually research my fish thoroughly before purchasing them. They are red w/black fins, fairly small). Tonight the Angels are pretty much giving each other very violent kisses!

The profile on this site says:

Gender: Very hard to tell. Older males may have a bump on their head. When spawning gender can be determined by breeding tubes. A female has a round "tear-drop" shaped breeding tube and a male has a cone shaped breeding tube.

Oh dear I had the same problem that you are having. All my angels got on fine while they were young but as they became adults they were all fighting with each other. I had 4 in a 400 litre tank so the size was not the prob I think they must have been all males but unfortunately I could not sex them so in the end I had to re-home them as they were stressing the other fish out. Its a shame really because they are such pretty fish. I hope you sort yours out sorry to hear you have such probs,
