I will most likeley be getting two angelfish to complete my tank(55 gallon) and I was just wondering what some of the most common problems with these fish are. I have already heard of one, that they get very aggressive during feeding and will not let any other fish eat from the water's surface. Is this true?

That may or may not happen when they reach silver dollar size (body)...

What you'll be buying are very young specimens which may have a problem from being attacked by other fish in the tank.

If they end up being a pair the other fish may get chased around when they spawn but I've never had an angel kill anything. Thouogh Neon size fish could get et once the angels get bigger.

And they can be very enthusiastic at feeding time but again I don't think they could keep the other fish at bay so they starved. A 55 has alot of surface area, you could just drop food at both ends, they can't be everywhere.

Other than that angels are pretty easy going for a cichlid.

Good luck, have fun, Mike

My angel has mellowed a bit, and I feed in two areas in my tank (there's a big old floating plant conglomerate in the middle of the tank).

I can't recall who said it, but I do think he was just making his place in the world (although he is a little pig).

Biggest Problems IMO is making sure ph is around 6-7 and that the ones you buy are 100% healthy and have good finnage. The accimilation proccess was the hardest IMO. Youll want to get the large type angels if they sell them instead of the babies as they are much much more hardy.

Some keep and breed Angels at a ph of 8..so whatever your ph is, you might try to find some more acclimated to it then you're off to a better start. There's a website called www.simplyangels.com you might check out.

I doubt you'll run into any problems regarding feeding and such. Angels don't seem to be particularly e to pH shock, either.

My ph is around 8.4, and my angelfish isn't having any problems. He will sometimes scare off fish that hang around him too much, but that's about it. What I love about my angelfish is that he will not only eat food from my fingers, but when I hold food 1/2 an inch above the water, he will jump out and get it!

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."
