This time after only 1 day. They seemed to be stressed out because other fish have been getting past and under and over my divider and bothering them. Yesterday they tried to kill my flying fox and had him turned bright white until I gingerly lefted the net divider and shooed him under. They are extremely aggressive. Then they ate their eggs last night this morning there were none. They are cleaning leaves again. ![]() I am considering hatching the next batch myself. Whats the best way to do this, and should I, or should I just wait patiently until they get it right? Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

A more reliable method is to pull the spawn and hatch the eggs yourself. You will need considerable tank space for growing out even a modest spawn. Do not attempt to growout an angelfish spawn in a 20 gallon tank. Thats waaaay too small. Think instead of at least 100 plus gallons to raise a single small spawn. Also, for best results, you must be prepared to hatch baby brine shrimp to feed the fry. You can find lots of info re self raising angels at these links: http://www.geocities.com/river_angels/angellinks.html |

I've got 2 spawns I'm raising and I've already sold 96 of them. Plus I culled runts twice (pulled the smallest 10% and sent them to live with Oscar) and I've still got 84 gallons of Angelfish and they are only dime size. I'd say I have roughly 150 left. If you are going to raise Angelfish you need to line out some stores to buy them from you. I sell to 4 but get rid of most of them at one that takes them at pea size and sells them for $1.99. I get 50 cents for them. So, now that you know what you are getting into on to hatching a spawn. Get a five gallon tank or some other small container, I know one person who uses one gallon pickle jars. You will also need an airpump, tubing, airstone, heater METHYBLU and a sponge filter. Get your sponge filter going in you big tank so bacteria colonize it. Once the Angels start leaf cleaning, set up the little tank with new water, get your airstone running and weight it down with a rock. get the temp to match the big tank. Once they've spawned take the leaf with the eggs and put it into the tank. Position the leaf so the bubbles play up the leaf. The ob Once this is is accomplished add Methyblu and wait. Once they hatch they'll be wiggling around and the infertile eggs will get a bunch of cottony stuff that the wigglers will get tangled in. Do not try to free them, they'll be fine and once they are free swimming they'll get loose themselves. Once they are free swimming get the leaf, rocks, airstone, and as much of the cottony stuff out of the tank. Put in the sponge filter and start feeding BBS. Good luck, Mike ps. Wrote this in a hurry, the wife want's to go eat. Let me know if you have any ?s. |
