I don't know how accurate this is, but I found this profile with Google -
Vieja fenestratus

Distribution: North America: Atlantic slope, from the Rio Papaloapn to the Rio Chachalacas, Mexico.
Water parameter: pH 7.5; Temp: 27degC
Max size: 12 inches (30 cm)
Diet: Herbivorous
Breeding: Open spawners. Paternal-Maternal brood care.
Description: Mainly vegetarian but would accept larger insects and small fishes if they do not have to chase for them.

Thanks! Does anyone know where this fish rates on the aggressive scale?

12" might be pushing it...I'm thinking they grow more in the 10" range but I'm not sure. as for aggression, the fenestratus and bifasciatus are the most aggressive (I believe) of the Paratheraps genus. I've read on other sites that they require a 55-75 gallon alone and if you're planning on breeding make sure to have a tank divider on hand.

Vieja fenestratus Requires a tank at least 60 inchs. The height is not as important as the depth, and males typically have more red than females.

they get to around 8 inces for females and males slightly larger they a mean to others of the same genus such as the bifasciatus but ignor fish that dont pose a threat to their dominance.

Without a doubt Jason is right. I frequent the board basically associated with Tangled Up in Cichlids daily. The fennie is a nasty nasty fish. It exceeds the aggression of the bifasciatus which is an aggressive member of the Vieja species as well. Your best bet with the Vieja's in a community tank would be with a V. Synspilus or V. Regani. However, you have to keep in mind that these are still cichlids. The Vieja species are more herbivorous than anything but will eat worms, insects, etc... Most of the Vieja species get rather big so you have to be consciencious of the size tank they will need. If you do decide to get a fennie get a large tank and basically dedicate it solely to the fennie. Hope this helps.

P.S. In my opinion there is no better seller of CA and SA cichids than Jeff Rapps who runs Tangled Up in Cichlids.

I don't think i would keep any of the veija family in a comunity tank only with other mean cichlids. Also most of the veija family has been moved to the Paratheraps genus.
