What can I add to my
Mbuna tank to make it a little more interesting, other than fish. I read in one post that crabs were a probability. Is that true? What about crayfish and freshwater "lobsters"?

In my experience, nothing really works to well with Malawi's. Except of course other Malawi's

If they (cichlids) catch say a crayfish at a moment of weakness, there's no more crayfish...

i have kept crayfish with mbunas and it does not work. when they molt, they are too fragile and the mbunas will eat them/kill them. not much else can go in there. frustrating isnt it? your tank isnt exciting?

Apple snails come from East Africa and like the water that Mbuna like.

If you want to "liven" up your tank, I suggest that you look into aquascaping it. I personally think that looks great. Play with the gravel/sand. Add some plants. Make rock formations. That always livens a tank up.

It was merely a suggestion to reliven up an old feeling tank. There is only the fact that most malawis would gobble down most inverts and those are about the only other living things, besides a frog, that can go in any tank.

Plants are out, almost all Mbuna will destroy live plants as their vegetarians...

if your finding your tank old and drab you could always trade your current fish in for some new species, thats what i do when they start to feel old.....
