It will basically attack most other tankmates in defense of it's territory, which it has now had established for 2 years per your post. Both your convicts and pleco are SA fish and need different water parameters and as such are really not compatible with your zebra. What size tank are your fish currently in? Jim |

fish_net Hobbyist Posts: 52 Kudos: 46 Votes: 3 Registered: 16-Aug-2004 | my blue zebra does look like the one in the picture but he is a much lighter blue, however it does say color variations and when i went to a much better lfs before the guy there was pretty knowledgable and identified the fish as a blue zebra but idk maybe its not and there are some pretty smart fish people on here so when i get home ill try to take a picture and post it |

I would keep 1 male with 3 females and that would probably work out. The 30 gallon is a bit small for most african cichlids and you would be better off with say a 55 gallon, but I think you could make it work. I wasn't able to see your photos as it prompted me for a password. Jim |

OldTimer Mega Fish USAF Retired Posts: 1181 Kudos: 1294 Votes: 809 Registered: 08-Feb-2005 | Well, he does look like a zebra to me. There are many, many color morphs of zebra's. How large is he? The photos are kind of deceptive and he really doesn't look very large. You did state however that he has been basically alone in the tank for 2 years, so he has determined that it is his territory and will probably attack most anything you place with him. Jim |

fish_net Hobbyist Posts: 52 Kudos: 46 Votes: 3 Registered: 16-Aug-2004 | he is small probably no more than 3 inches right now. he hasnt been alone in the tank the whole 2 years he had tank mates when he joined my tank guppies and tetras at that point he was to small to bother them since msot were bigger than him he had been alone for probably about 6 months (give or take a few months) when i added cichlids to the tank. but since i have done so he seems not only to be more active partially bc of the aggression but he eats more ive been having to feed twice a day. so i have no idea hes a strange fish |

fish_net Hobbyist Posts: 52 Kudos: 46 Votes: 3 Registered: 16-Aug-2004 | also if i was to return the convicts and buy 3 females of the same species as you suggested how do i tell if its a female? cichlids are soo much harder to sex than livebearers. |
