Okay, the regular forums are back,

On the Temp forums you asked about hatching BBS so here goes.

To do it the way I do it you will need;

One of those SHRIMPERY Brine Srimp hatcheries sold in pet stores. Its a black Plastic box about 4 inches square with a lid. There is a clear plastic bottle with a lid that has a hole in it that fits in the lid of the black box.

2 tall narrow glass or plastic jars that hole a quart and a half. I got the ones I use in the craft dept. at Wal Mart. They are 10.5 inches high X 3.25 inches in diameter.

Air pump, 24 inches of air line, a 12 inch piece of hard plastiic air tubing

Brine shrimp eggs & Aquarium salt

Put 2 tablespoons of salt and a half teaspoon of eggs in the tall jar.
Fill the black plastic box with water (I use water from an Aquaruim) and pour it into the jar with the salt & eggs.
Hook up the airline to the hard tubing and the pump. stir the salt and eggs with the hard tubing until the salt is dissolved.
Cover the jar (I use a large Taco Bell Drink Cup) and wait a day.
Day 2
Get another batch ready in the other jar.
Dump the first batch into the black plastic box and fill to the line if needed and put the lid on. The water should be above the hole for the little clear plastic bottle.
Fill the little clear plastic bottle with fresh water from the aquarium put the lid on and put it in it's place on top of the hatchery. If youstart it tipped a little it'll let any trapped air out.
Tap on the clear plastic bottle until you see stuff come up into it from the hatchery.
Make sure a light is shining on the bottle and wait for the shrimp to swim up into it.
When you feed just dump the clear bottle into the Aquarium and refill and replace it on the black box. (you can usually feed 3 or 4 times a day.)
Day 3
Dump the brine from the box into the jar, add a half teaspoon of eggs and put the air tube in from the other jar.
Dump the other jar into the black box and set it up as before to harvest the shrimp.
About once a week make a completely new start for each jar.

That's the way I do it.
others do it different and maybe you want to try it their way but I don't have to strain the shrimp out because they swim into the fresh water in the little clear plastic bottle and I use the same brine to hatch eggs for a week.

Have fun, Mike

hey Mike,
Thanks for the recipe. I will see if I can get that stuff together. My angels first batch of eggs didnt make it. The 60 hour mark came and went, and then the 70 hour mark. Shortly after this I went and checked again and the angels had eaten all the eggs. Most of them had turned white anyway, and the few that hadnt never did become wigglers.
They are currently cleaning a new leaf at the time.
Well, I think they did not too bad for their first batch. When none of the remaining eggs hatched around the right time I guess they decided to clean house and try again. Hopefully the next batch will make it! Gives me lots of time to prepare the brine shrimp hatchery!

That's a bummer.
They'll probably spawn again in 10-14 days. First spawns are always iffy. Keep'em fed well and the water changed and a new batch of eggs will appear in no time.

Good luck, Mike
