A fish that is 4" not including the tail needs that extra space.

There are actually three different sizes of 15-gallon, at least according to thekrib.com:

15-high - 20 by 10 by 19. Same footprint as a 10-leader.
15-show - 24 by 8 by 17. Same footprint as a 10-long.
15 - 24 by 12 by 13. Easily the biggest footprint, the same footprint as a 20-high.

Rams being bottom-dwellers with little use for the surface regions, I'd suggest the last of those 15s as a good tank for them.

15, bigger is better.

Royal ciclid, all 15's I have seen are the SAME height as 10's. Just a bigger footprint.

I think that a 15 gallon is best seeing as how bolivians get to a nice size compaired to german rams. Rams are great fish, and personally, i prefer germans, but I also like the bolivians.

Anyway, 15 is the smallest i would go for a bolivian ram.

I saw some today, and they're quite small. One or two could fit in a 10 gallon happily if it was well suited to them with good filtration and a very attentive owner.

You could fit a breeding pair comfortabley in a 10g and a non breeding pair aswell.

then 3, 4 if you wanna push it, in a 15g.

a 10 gallon is big eneough for a air of these little cichlids. Also TheGoldenDojo said:A fish that is 4" not including the tail needs that extra space.

If anyone can show me a 4" Bolivian Ram not including the tail I'll send you 20 Bucks.

Most 15s are 24 inches long (compared to 18 inches for a 10) - unless it's a 15 tall.

I voted 15, and I think that would actually be fine. They defend rather small territories.

Still, bigger tends to be better - mine are in a 29.

Although I'd really say a 20 is better. 3 inches is a lot bigger than you think until you see it on a ruler.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

there is not enough difference in the two as a 15 is just 6in taller and rams are a bottom dwelling species so a 20g is a lot better.
