I recently got some Apistogramma cacatoides for my Sth American tank...hadn't really planned on breeding them. They obviously had other plans! Of what I can see, they are herding about 16 little 2mm long babies! Any tips?

hiding places, plants, caves etc.

Reduce the amt of food and feed twice a day instead of once per day.

You may want to set up a divider or nursery if you really want to keep them. Some cichlids are very good when the fry are very young but not so attentive when the fry are older. Tank mates or the actual parents can treat you fry like a food treat....juuuuust a few less fry each day for some reason...hmmmm very suspicious.

Go with Microworms, i think they'll the best for newly born fry. After a week, feed them live Brine Shrimp.

actually cacatoides wont eat mature young. a female may actually leave the duty of takeing care of new fry to previous daughters so she may go have more fry. other female cacatoides may get jealous of the new fry, put on breeding colors and steel some to take care of.

after a curtain age the male will see the younger males as a threat to his breeding grouns and shew them off. depending on the size of the tank this may not be possible so they will be forced to the upper part of the tank or killed.

very cool species and im looking for a pair myself.

Any particular build? Orange flash? Red numbered? Etc.? Good job, regardless, and good luck with them.
