I don't think I'd put more than the Calvus pair in there, personally - definitely not C. moorii, males of which hit 8", not te mention that it's a Malawi species. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

You really just don't have the room for any other fish, although Calvus are peaceful their a cichlid. ![]() Nice choice though, do you know which variant your going to get? |

Nope on all accounts, keeping in mind that Calvus are a peaceful, 4" fish....in a 29g ![]() Going by your list and keeping it simple Neolamps are to aggressive to live in a 29g with any fish. Same goes for any Julidochromis. Might work(no experience) but your tanks to small. Honestly in a 29g, your kinda stuck to a Pair of Neolamps, a Pair of Julidochromis, as both of these species will require the entire tank as territory, about 2'. ![]() But a Pair of Black Calvus in a well done 29g, is plenty. Good Luck ![]() |

Regardless, even in a 24" tank, I think you could easily keep a pair of calvus (heck, when young at 1" you won't be able to sex them, try and get 4 - they stay small for quite some time) AND you could fit in a pair or two pairs at first of N. brevis. Brevis have very small territories and are rather peaceful for tangs. I also think a pair of the dwarf julies would work fine if you had two rock piles (one on each side of the tank) with sand in the middle. If you think julies would be your choice, look for dickfeldi or ornatus (I've found them more peaceful). Also, telmatochromis vittatus or bifrenatus (they have the julie body shape) would also work as a pair with calvus. Eric |

Make sure you have 2 shells for each brevis (large apple snail shells, escargot shells, etc.). Use rock as high up as you can to increase the calvus' use of the upper parts of the tank. Eric |
