Hi anyone know if these two get on, just put in a black calvus and he retreated to the bottom of the tank, the BN saw him, raised his fin and started swimming backards, hitting the calvus, but he just backed up a bit, raised his fin and is sitting solid. The BN is about 4Inches long, the Calvus in about 2 and half the size.

I have a 2inch Red tailed Black shark. who i thought would have been the problem. He came over, Went up to the Calvus, had a sniff then swam off. Circled......now get this, he thought he'd join in with this Bazare business and started swimming back warns flicking his tail at the Calvus....What the hell is going on here. The RT Black shark is back to acting normal, swimming about and eating.

The other two are still standing off Fins raised.

I am guessing either BN thinks the Calvus is another Pleco cos of the spiky fin. so is trying to get a pecking order. The Calvus was in with a lot of bigger Cichlids and was not bothered by them so maybe thats why he aint budging.

I am also guessing the RTBs has showing off his colourful tail saying look i'm the boss.

Side note, Plec never messed with the RTBS, in fact kept hiding from him.

The order I put them in..

RTBS Week ago
Plec Saturday
Calvus 2 hours ago

Any ideas

What size tank is this?

Yeah, Alto Calvus and BN's are usually good together, they usually never notice each other.

My friends tank has several Black A. Calvus and several BN's and they're all good. So i'm not real sure why your BN and Calvus are doing this. Like you said maybe your BN thinks it's another BN, but with my experience of keeping BN's this sort of behaviuor isn't very common.

I think you should get more rocks and caves etc so the BN and the Calvus can avoid each other. Maybe they're forget about each other after a while.

Anyway, keep me posted.

again may i ask what size tank this is?

If the tank is too small maybe they're getting in each others way and annoying each other. Just a thought.

Also just so you remember Calvus require a high PH of around 8.5 and they like lots of rocks.

The BN and Calvus should be O.K. just let them settle....

Get the RTBS out of there.
If you want to keep the calvus, first get a few more. Let them pair and trade the rest. They can also be kept in colony's..
Any tank mate need to be VERY peaceful Lake Tanganyika Cichlids.
Provide lots of rock work forming caves...High ph as mentioned.

Post a thread in Tnaganyikan cichlds, for suggestions on proper tank mates

Calvus are beautiful fish but they usually don't do well unless properly kept.

Your tank is to small for the fish you've selected as well they don't belong in the same tank no matter the size of it....

Then keep the RTBS and get rid of the Calvus. I know it sucks but responsible fish keeping can be that way when you've got your heart set on something
