![]() | Black Calvus eggs - Help! |
Dolf![]() Enthusiast Posts: 203 Kudos: 180 Votes: 46 Registered: 09-May-2004 ![]() ![]() | I've got Black Calvus (Altolamprologus calvus)eggs and am looking for suggestions on how to proceed. The story: Several months ago I bought a used tank. It came with a pair of Calvus and Brevis. The owner said they were mating pairs. Recently I got around to establishing a tank just for the Calvus. Today I went to move their favorite rock into the new tank and the male attacked my hand. He doesn't normally do that when my hand is in the tank, so I should have known something was up. I netted him and continued moving the landscaping. Then, much to my surprise, as I put the biggest rock into the new tank, the little female popped out of a small hole. I looked in the hole and sure enough, there was a small clutch of eggs. It has been over 2 hours now and the female still has not gone back to the hole. So here is where I need help. As I see it I have 3 options: 1. Leave the female in the tank and hope she goes back to the eggs. 2. Remove mom and hope the eggs hatch on their own, or 3. Write off this clutch. Put the pair in as originally planned and wait for the next go 'round. So, what to do? I'm leaning toward giving mom some time to adjust to the new surroundings and go back to the eggs. If she doesn't, then remove her and hope for the best. ![]() |

If they are fertilized and you have tons of rock work you might get a few fry still. Have any pictures cuz those are some sweet fish. 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |

Good luck whatever you decide to do. |

I put a power head in the tank with the eggs to provide water flow, but I like the bubbler idea and will change to that. If I remember to bring my camera back from work, I'll try to get some good pictures of them. Thanks. |
