We had one that we tried to put in with our oscar, Lava. Needless to say, it made it one night and then was breakfast. I would not suggest an oscar as a tank mate.

Blood Parrots tend to be one of the calmer cichlids. I have seen some rosy reds live with them after escaping out of an Oscar tank. Their small mouth also makes it hard for them to do damage to less agressive fish.

I have a breeding pair of Blood Parrots. They do get agressive during breeding, but are otherwise calm and dont bother any other fish. I've had mine for a long time, and they are about 5" long and fat as balloons!

Blood Parrot Info to the rescue!
We have 4 very healthy, robust, and a mating pair!
As far as temperment, they are suprisingly quite calm. The only time they get agressive, and we cant put our arms in the water is when the 2 larger lay eggs, which is cool, but they suck at your arms and pull on your arm hair! Nasty little kids!
Anyway, as far as food goes, we feed them tetra min staple flakes, medium cichlid pellets, they love blood worms, shrimp pellets are a must! easy for them to eat. We have them in a south american tank, which has inhabitants that are listed in my profile, and we also had guppies in there for a while, they did not eat them at all! So smaller fish, fat chance they will eat them! They are a bit too slow for being a predator.
I think this is a pretty good start please email or contact me if you have any questions!, or reply to this thread, as I will check it daily! Hope this helps!

a tank ranging from 75-90 gallons will be good for houseing adults.

tankmates should be class "B", basically not small tetras/barbs etc. they do well with other cichlids, and cats, and BGK.

my largest is around 9-11 inches.

they are hybreds, and most of the time they are infertile. They are shunned by many fish keepers, b/c they are hybreds, and they are being altered. but that doesn't stop me.

care is very easy. and they have a med. growth rate. pellets are a good food.

if u do get paint ones,(there real colors are black, and then yellow-red.) green/blue/white/purple etc. colors are often more expensive, BUT becareful, because the color wont last more than a few months. they will usually turn into a red/orange/yellow color.
