I need to know if they will be compatable with the following: 6 Black widow tetras 4 cories 1 bristle nose 1 male betta I also have 2 dwarf male gouramis I would give to a friend if the rams are compatable. Anybody see any issues with this set up. I've been to several lfs and can't find any. The tank is 26 US gal. |

No problems between any of them. Since the rams are more middle-bottom of the tank I think the betta should be fine as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

They won't bother any of the other fish, and none of the others will mess with the rams. I would add two more cories though, because they seem to do best in large groups. Four is nice, but six cories are even better. |

Also if the rams are both males would their be territorial problems. What's the best way to tell what sex they are? |

Tetras produce very little waste, and cories don't make much either. Also, having two male rams wouldn't be much of a problem. Bolivians aren't very aggressive at all, even towards each other. They would have plenty of room to stake out territories in your tank anyways, as they only guard small spaces. As for sexing, females usually have more red on their bellies than males, and females have shorter filaments on their fins. It isn't very easy to sex these rams, though it doesn't matter much, unless you're planning to breed them. Last edited by sirbooks at 26-Oct-2004 20:56 |

I do like Sirbrooks idea of getting 2 more cories. Right now I have 2 panda's, 1 albino and 1 lepoard. They all hang out together. If I add 2 more panda's will the 4 panda's stay with the others? I don't want to remove the betta. He's beautiful and sort of territorial only with the gouramis. I think adding rams might not be a good idea. |

They are very peaceful for cichlids, but they may nip at your betta's fins from time to time. I have a betta in my 29 gallon tank, and my lemon tetras will occasionally go after his long fins. I don't really worry about it, though. The tetras nip at each other more than at my betta. You could probably try the rams out, and see how they work. If you do, I'd return them at the first possible sign of them harassing your betta. That way, you'd be able to save him if he got picked on. Last edited by sirbooks at 29-Oct-2004 05:24 |
