Bolivians should be a little easier to breed than German/Blue Rams. They come from waters that are a bit alkaline, so 7.0 to 7.4 will suit them just fine. They are substrate spawners (like their 'cousins'), so pieces of slate over a fine gravel or sand substrate will provide both spawning and digging sites. They will sometimes move eggs or fry after digging a pit elsewhere in the tank. They've been kept in as small as a 10g, but I'd recommend a 20g or more, and as with most fish, breeding is best done by supplementing live foods, slightly warmer temps than what they are used to, and few or no other fishes around. Also, the developing fry will do the best with very good water quality, so keep up water changes, and test for nitrates to make sure they stay very low. Best wishes for your fishes! ![]() |
