I already keep them in water with one tbs of salt per five gallons, but isnt brackish one tbs per gallon? |

Though look for some call chromides. Theres 2 common species availible. The orange and green. Orange are usually more common. |

Jason_R_S![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Moderator Posts: 2811 Kudos: 2421 Votes: 391 Registered: 18-Apr-2001 ![]() ![]() ![]() | there are several cichlids that, in the wild, are found straying into brackish conditions. however, I don't think they live in brackish waters permanently, but rather they stray into brackish water possibly to hunt and then head back to freshwater. anyway, some that have been found in brackish waters include N. haitiensis (black nasty), C. festae (red terror), V. maculicauda (black belt) and I'm sure there are several others. Also, for what it's worth, any puffer that's a freshwater puffer is really found and will only thrive in pure freshwater. there are around 20 or so pure freshwater puffers, and only a handful that are brackish. ![]() |

Orange chromides are around 3ish inches whereas green chromides get around 12 inches. Also, brackish water isn't just salt in water, it's marine salt mix like you use for saltwater fish in smaller quantities in FW. BW fish need some of those SW chemicals not found in aquarium/dehydrated sea/table salt which are all simply sodium chloride. Eric |

They may be found straying into BW, but they usually wouldn't prefer to LIVE in BW. So I stick to FW fish stay in FW. |
