Well, the convicts are definately easier, probably the easiest cichlid there is to breed. All you need to breed convicts is a male, a female and some water. On a more serious note, all you will need is a 20 gallon long (minimum) and a substrate suitable for spawning. I'm not too sure about the labs but I do know that they aren't a beginner's fish for breeding. Oh, I almost forgot. If you cross a pink convict with a black convict you get a cool "marble" variety which looks awesome!

yellow labs are just as easy. they just take care of thier fry a little differently. they are mouth brooders and hold the fry in thier mouth until they think its ok to let them loose. i suppose cons could be a little easier, need more females for yellow labs to spread agression.

Thank you. Can convicts breed if there are clown loaches in the tank? Are the pink convicts cheaper than the regular ones.

The pink convicts generally cost a tad more than the black convicts but they are both really cheap. A 2 inch black con at my lfs goes for 1.98 and a pink for 2.98. As far as the clown loaches go, I'm not sure if they are a threat to the fry or not? What size tank are they in? The cons will defend their fry aggressively though and possibly severely injure the clowns. Be careful.

I would breed the fish in a thirty five gallon tank with two clown loaches, 1 blue gourami and a red tail black shark. I will have plenty of caves and dense vegetation.

IMHO, your tank is aready overstocked. Those two clowns will need a 50-75 (and a few buddies). I think the smallest tanksize for a RTBS is a 40, but you probably could get away with a 35. And your blue Gourami should be ok. Adding a pair of breeding cons to that tank would not be a good idea.

I have a 60 gallon with eight other clowns so i'll put the other two in there. is 35 gallon big enough for a pair of convicts and nothing else?

depending on how old the convicts are when the are put into the tank if they are juviniles you can get away with a 10 gallon. for a single pair. The 35 will be plenty for them and for the most part convicts do not care what else is in the tank the'll spawn anways. I have spawned and raised meny different color morphs and a few that may even a differnt speices. I have had convicts spawned with catfish and lrg chiclids in with them in a 55.
