Hello! Nice to be back on the site again. I have a 55 gal cichlid tank that I got (for free) from my best pal, Tanya81. After switching around some fish, I now have 2 male johannis, two female, one jewel, and one male peacock. I have weaned the tank down in numbers to try to have a tank to breed the johannis. There is one mating pair already. One of their fry is currently living in my 29 gal until it gets older (it's a little girl!) Any suggestions? I know I need to get my ratio a little more towards 3:1 female to male, but i'm looking forward to raising these fish, and possibly selling them in the future. My big male johanni rules the tank with an iron fist, and he's BEAUTIFUL! thanks for any replies.

I've got a fever... and the only prescription... is more cowbell!

I started off with the 3:1 ratio but the male paired off with one of the females and wouldn't have anything to do with the other females. I moved the pair to a 40 gal tank where they continued to breed.

Breeding these fish will be best done in a species tank, your 2 males and 8-10 females. lots of rock work.

Feed your fish good foods and give them nice clean water and they'll take care of the rest
