A couple questions; Can I use a saltwater buffer block to raise my pH, and will a pleco do ok in with these guys. I'm setting up a species tank, but was hoping to add a pleco IF he'll be ok, if not, is there any algea eater that would survive with these cichilds?

hi there ;

it depends on what your water ph is at the moment, and what the fish are currently used to. it pays to fiddle with the chemistry as little as possible.

i wouldn't recommend a pleco, it will get too big for the tank i'm presuming that you will get for a pair of these fish.

a much better tankmate would be a bristlenose.

What is the ph at the moment?.

To raise the ph you can add some limestone, that's what i did & mine is around 7.2.

With my pair of Brichardi, i have about 15 fry & 2 Yoyo Loaches & a CAE. They are all fine & Brichardi have 2/3 of the tank & the other 1/3 is for the Yoyo's & CAE. They are quite territorial, especially when breeding.

I just set up the tank, and dropped in a buffer block for saltwater tanks. The pH is still rising, but should buffer out around 7.8 to 8.3. I am trying to get as close to ideal for the brichardi because I intend to breed them for class points in the Breeders' Award Program at my club. They are going in a 45gal corner tank and I piled lava stone into a nice hill with lots of crevices. Any feedback appreciated...

My pair breeded in 7.2 ph & in 4 months they breeded 4 times. They love lots of rocks & they dig up gravel aswell, so the rocks must be steady & placed on the glass bottom of the tank.

Please keep us informed.............
