Oh no, another "Can I" question.

Okay, here goes. I have a 30 gallon tank. Present occupants are 7 Zebra Danios & one large CAE. Also have a male Krib in this tank but he will be moved in a month to 6 weeks to another tank.

Can i...

1) convert this tank to a south African tank and keep the CAE & Danios in the tank, will they accept the water chemisty change?

2) Can I change the water chemistry a little at a time by changing out the gravel to Eco-Complete African Cichlid Sand and change just a 1/4 of the gravel a week. Would this change the water slowly enought to allow the present fish to addapt?

3) Can a put in the tank, once the gravel is changed out completely, a pair or trio of Yellow Labs? If not, please make recommendations.

4) Presently this tank is filtered with an Eheim 2222 canister rated for a 40 gallon tank and a Pengiun 330, which has been running for 3 years and is well seeded. Would this be acceptable filtration for African Cichlids?

Thank you much

All I would do is slowly add some Limestone/Texas Holey Rock to the tank decor, removing other decorations...I wouldn't take out and change the substrate, my cichlids were perfectly happy with the gravel that was in the tank...I know according to the [link=Yellow Lab]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/electricyellow.xml" style="COLOR: #800080[/link] the pH only needs to be 7.5...i know that I had trouble even getting mine that high, usually at most I was 7.2-7.5...

What I would worry about is the dannios becoming lunch If they are small enough to fit in their mouthes I wouldn't put it past them to be eaten Mine were hungry little guys and gals, and would even try to eat at my fingers, though they weren't the worst...

Enjoy them, they are quite enjoyable and friendly...heidi

Thank you, I thought the Danios would be good dithers cause they are so fast but I can move them. What do you have as dithers for your Labs?

I unfortunately no longer have my yellow labs :#( but what I had in the tank with them was:

[link=Acei]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/acei.xml" style="COLOR: #00FF00[/link]
[link=Rusty]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/rusty.xml" style="COLOR: #00FF00[/link]
[link=Cobalt Zebra]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/cobaltblue.xml" style="COLOR: #00FF00[/link]
[link=Lambordoi]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/lombardoi.xml" style="COLOR: #00FF00[/link]

If it were me and my 30 gallon I'd go with a trio of the Yellow Labs, and a pair of Acei...the colors between them will play off of each other and be quite enjoyable to watch...but this would be a fully stocked tank also. Glad I could be of some help heidi michelle

I'm going to have to suggest you keep it as a single species tank, being as it's only a 30g...

Either Yellows or Acei can work in that size a tank but they will do much better if it's single species
