What did you do with them? Heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Thomas Carlyle |

Been thinking about going down there with a net a seeing if I could snag one.....they're good looking, ornery little (big) fish!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

His natrual habitat is in Texas....drainage canals off of the Rio Grande River....which is about five miles from my house. Since most of the fish we all like to keep come from such far flung places it's hard for many of us to imagine going and getting one from the wild in nearby proximity to where we live, but for me down here....it's a reality. This happens in Texas all the time....the southernmost part where I am is VERY tropical (avg. year round temp. 75 degrees) There is hardly a winter to speak of, and a lot of the CA American Cichlids....especially the Texas....live very close by. I do know that the texas cichlid can be naturally found in the US, but this is the only cichlid that can be naturally found in the US. any other cichlid caught in US waters shouldn't be there. ![]() |

Would it be wise for me to go scoop one out of the river to raise or would I be better off getting it at the fish store? I wouldn't put anything else in with it, just a species tank for Texas Cichlids. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That's just me though. ![]() |
