I have 2 petricolas in my currently Tanganyikan tank, (Brichardis) but it's about to be changed to a Malawi tank (yellow labs and Acei). Do you think the petricolas will mind the change? I know you're not really supposed to mix tangs and malawi cichlids, but I don't know if the same rule applies to catfish?

S. petricola should be fine in most Malawi setups. I think the only scorn you'll draw about mixing lakes is going to be from the hard-core purists. Seriously though, I would not expect there to be a problem, especially with Labs and Acei.

Besides, I think there's only one species of Synodontis in all of Lake Malawi (S. njasae - probably not spelled correct), and they aren't easy to come by.

I'd say it should work as well, but the only thing I might be a bit nervous about is the long Barbels of the petricola.....Mbuna have a tendency to make a habit of picking at such things

Just watch them closely and start with smaller yellows and Acei so the grow up knowing the petricloa are their and hopefully don't pester them to much

It will be fine. You'll have 2 of the most peaceful mbunas. I have 2 WC Syno. Multis in my 125g Malawi hap tank and they're great together.
