Hi, I just have a quick question. I have a young Chocolate Cichlid, about 7 or 8 inches (including tale) alone in a 30 gallon tank. I moved her to this new tank earlier last year and a while later she laid eggs. And has continued to do so every now and then, probably close to ten times in the past 8+ months.

Any ideas why she is doing this? She is a very healthy, active, and fairly aggressive fish. Is she happy? Upset? Water temperature problem? Though it's at approximately the right temperature. She's done it whether her tank has gotten messy and when it's cleaned up. I can't figure this out. I've just about threatened her with finding a niche in selling "Chocolate Caviar"! lol

Thank you for any info and/or suggestions!

it's not all that uncommon for a female central/south american cichlid to lay eggs without the presence of a male. I'd say she's perfectly healthy and not to worry. Only thing you might try to do is find a male, and possibly a larger tank for them.

I have to say, the title of this thread made me very hungry.

I agree with Jason, in *most* fish, building nests or laying eggs when they aren't being bred is usually just a sign that they are happy and healthy. I wouldn't worry about it, but it would be cool to find her a mate and breed them.
